Team Vegas Motorsports proudly sponsors Armand Aquino competing in Solo II Events

What is Solo II?

Solo II is the SCCA brand name for autocross competition. Autocross is a timed competition, not a race. One car at a time runs against the clock on a course that is defined by traffic cones in much the same way that flags are used to set gates in ski racing. The course is set on a low hazard location like an open parking lot or an inactive airstrip. The cones are the only obstacle you need to worry about. There is a two second penalty added to your time for each cone you knock over. A Solo II course is designed with the safety of novice drivers in mind, so speeds stay within the normal legal range. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience. It is like being in a movie chase scene, only you are holding onto the steering wheel instead of a box of popcorn!

Anyone with almost any car can enter. Drivers are required to have a valid driver's license, wear a seatbelt, and use an approved helmet. No special safety mods are required on any but the oldest cars, but some must have seat belts added to be legal. Every car must pass a basic technical inspection that checks whether key safety items are in place and functional.

SOLO II CAR CLASSIFICATIONS

  • Stock
This class includes mass produced vehicles able to be used for normal street driving. Stock Category cars must compete in their showroom configuration with only minor modifications allowed such as aftermarket shocks, wheels, and tires. Other minor modifications are allowed as well.

  • Street Prepared
Any and all Stock Category vehicles are eligible for Street Prepared. You're also allowed to make modifications to the suspension, ignition, intake, and exhaust to further enhance the performance of the vehicle. No internal engine modifications are allowed, but minor changes to the bodywork to accommodate larger wheels and tires are permitted.

  • Prepared - Class A; Class B; Class C; Class D; Class E; Class F
You'll find high performance, production based non-street-driven vehicles here. Cars retain their original design, structure, and drive layout unless otherwise specified in the Solo Rules. Minimum weights are specified for all cars as part of the classing structure.

  • Modified
These vehicles are heavily modified specifically for the purposes of competition. You'll see excessively altered Prepared Category vehicles as well as formulas, single-seat specials, dunebuggies, and kit cars.

  • Street Touring®
A new concept started in 1997, which is optional for Regions to offer at the local level and is part of selected National events. This category allows sedans (four seaters) with a maximum displacement of 3.1L, normally aspirated. This category is for the popular street cruisers with lowered suspension, air filter systems, and wider wheels. The category consists of two classes; STS for street tired cars and STR for "R" compound tires.

  • Street Modified
Another optional class for Regions at the local level, but offered at selected National Solo events. Similar to Street Touring® except that extensive drivetrain and suspension modifications are allowed.

Armand Aquino's car falls under the SP Class or Street Prepared Class. Armand usually runs the SOLO II events.
